If you ask many Ghanaians, not from the Volta Region about Juapong, they’ll probably mention Juapong Textiles Limited (now Volta Star Textiles Limited).
It is a very quiet town with a lot of economic, social, and tourism potential that many people do not know of.
Location.
Juapong is a town in the North Tongu District of the Volta Region of Ghana.
It is the first town of the Volta Region after crossing the Adomi bridge at Atimpoku and shares a boundary with the Eastern Region.
It is 23.5 km to Akosombo and 77.6 Km to Tema via the Akosombo to Tema Road. The topography of the North Tongu District is gentle, ranging from near sea level to about 18 meters (60 feet) above sea level.
Temperature and relative humidity vary little throughout the year. The mean temperature is 27°C, and the maximum varies from 22°C to 33° C respectively.
The People of Juapong are mainly Ewes, but there are other ethnic groups living in the town.
Farming and fishing are the two major occupations of the inhabitants.
The Juapong Train Station
The government of Ghana has plans to decongest the Tema Port and ease the transportation of goods to the northern part of Ghana and to the landlocked countries in the West African sub-region.
To this end, a new rail line has been constructed from the Tema Port to Mpakadan near Akosombo in the Eastern Region.
This is part of the 1,000 km Eastern corridor rail line from Tema Port to Ouagadougou in Burkina Faso.
As part of the decongestion plan of Tema, Juapong has been earmarked for an inland port.
A new train station has been built at Juapong as part of a plan to build an inland port city to ease the burden on Tema port.
When fully operational, traveling by rail to Tema is expected to be less than 30 minutes making it faster and easier to connect to Accra and other parts of Ghana.
